Stormwater Runoff Science/Engineering Newsletter. Develop and publish the email-based, Stormwater Runoff Science/Engineering Newsletter. Published approximately monthly for more than a dozen years, this newsletter discusses, and provides technical insight and information on, timely topics pertinent to evaluation and management of water quality impacts associated with stormwater runoff. Active in publishing technical papers and reports, many of which are available online at www.gfredlee.com;
Serve as member of review panel for the American Public Health Association, American Water Works Association, and Water Environment Federation manual, Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater - since 1960s;
Frequently serve as invited peer reviewer for research proposals, journal articles, and reserach project reports;
Serve on Journal Editorial Boards - Currently member of editorial board for the journal, Remediation, and the journal, Stormwater. Previously served on the editorial boards of the journals, Environmental Science & Technology and Groundwater;
Served as member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Managed Recharge of Groundwater Standards Committee;
Present lectures on management of contaminants in aquatic systems, development and appropriate use of water quality criteria and standards, landfills and groundwater quality issues, urban stormwater quality issues, water quality aspects of mining, redevelopment of remediated Superfund sites, management of domestic water supply water quality, radioactive waste management, and related topics;
Presented workshops and short-courses on landfills and groundwater quality protection issues in Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Ventura, and Riverside, CA; Las Vegas and Reno, NV; Medellin, Colombia; New York City, NY; Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Seattle, WA; Tucson, AZ; Wadesboro, NC; on behalf of the University of California Extension Programs, American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Water Resources Association, and the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League.
Presented workshop on development of sediment quality objectives in San Francisco, CA, and Seattle, WA.
Presented two-day short-course on sediment quality evaluation and management in San Francisco, CA.
Served as American Chemical Society (ACS) tour speaker in NC and VA, 1990; NY, NJ, CO, UT, ID and MT, 1991; TN, KY, CT, NY and NJ, 1993; and GA, SC, NC, MI, MN and WI, 1994; and TX, 1995;
Presented a session on Water Quality Aspects of Mining and Mine Waste Management at the Nevada Institute of Technology/University of Wisconsin Extension workshop;
Presented workshop on Water Quality Aspects of Dredging Contaminated Sediments at the annual Texas A&M University Dredging Engineering short-course, for 18 years;
Assisted in developing Groundwater Resources Association of California - a new professional organization;
Organized new Groundwater Quality Subcommittees in ACWA (Association of California Water Agencies) and CA/NV AWWA (American Water Works Association);
Organized a session devoted to Landfills and Groundwater Quality Protection Issues at the American Water Resources Association national meeting on Innovative Groundwater Management that was held in Tucson, AZ, in August 1993;
Serve as Chief Examiner for north-central California for the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.
Serve as member of the CA Department of Health Services Steering Committee for the Fish Mercury Project, a $4.5-million research effort devoted to investigating and developing control approaches for excessive mercury bioaccumulation in CA Central Valley fish;
Involvement with CA Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board in various capacities including: member of Technical Issues Committee for the Ag Waiver Irrigated Lands Program; member of CVRWQCB Unknown Caused Toxicity Committee; participate in Delta Mercury Tributary Council; participate in Sacramento River Watershed Program;
Participate in CA State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Sediment Quality Objectives development program;
Served as member of American Society of Civil Engineers Managed Recharge of Groundwater Standards committee;
Serve as US EPA Reviewer for its Reports on Unrecognized/Unregulated Pollutants � Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs); and Proposed Updated Approach for Developing Toxic Weighting Factor for Regulation of Industrial Wastewater Discharges;
Serve as member of Water Environment Research Foundation panel on evaluating reliability of applying biosolids at agronomic rates;
